Niger
Developed and managed the infrastructure and logistics plans for a U.S. Fortune 100 international oil company to conduct major oil exploration activities in the far eastern reaches of the Sahara Desert region of Niger. The initial project included the green field establishment of a venture office, the shooting of hundreds of miles of seismic, and the drilling of multiple exploratory oil wells.
The venture office was in the capitol, Niamey, but the exploration block was over 800 air miles to the east. The distance alone created formidable challenges in a country with minimal infrastructure. And, the operational environment was extremely harsh with searing temperatures, trackless desert, and an arid climate.
Most significantly, the security threat was high. Armed nomads were specifically targeting the field activities under the direction of a terrorist organization. Thus, robust armed security was required to ensure the physical safety of personnel and assets.
To meet these challenges we developed multi faceted programs that included not only traditional security, but also air and ground transportation, radio communications, and medical components. In short, all of the operational logistics fell on our shoulders.
During this campaign, nearly 1,000 miles of seismic was shot and three wells were drilled to completion over a period of more than one year. And, notably, no security incidents were experienced and the logistical system functioned nearly flawlessly.
