Created and operated the security infrastructure for a U.S. Fortune 500 Oil Company engaged in exploration and development activities in the Kurdistan Autonomous Region (KAR). Also developed all of the security related policies, plans and procedures for the company. Included were plans for the emergency evacuation of the expatriate staff, protection of field operations, protection of offices and residences, and numerous other activities.
The threat to company activities emanated from both neighboring countries and a hostile central government. Consequently, even the presence of the company in the KAR was sensitive and all operational activities had to be conducted in a discrete manner. Despite these constraints, a sound security structure was quickly developed and activities commenced within a matter of weeks.
A crucial aspect of this activity was the development of good working relationships with the KAR government and regular interaction with senior government officials. The development of solid connections with local US Government representatives was also essential.
The result of this effort was a robust security structure which successfully supported field operations throughout the KAR and an evacuation plan which proved effective when ultimately implemented.
